Little support expected as Geert Wilders helps launch anti-Islam party in Australia

Dutch politician Geert Wilders has appeared in Australia to help launch an anti-Islam political party based on Wilders’s right-wing Party for Freedom (PVV) in the Netherlands.

Protesters threatened to drown out the Dutch politician’s speech at an event in Perth for a new Australian political party, the Australian Liberty Alliance (ALA).

Wilders told reporters that Europe cannot handle growing number of Muslim asylum seekers. He called on Australia “to stay Australian”.

He was quoted as saying: “Please don’t think that it won’t happen to Australia tomorrow. Stop the mass immigration from Islamic countries. We say no more to the governments and the Islamisation process.”

Political analysts say the party is unlikely to have much support, with no high-profile candidates and little apparent public sympathy for a far-Right, anti-immigration party.
