This harmful portrayal, influenced by anti-cult activists and sensationalism, undermines protections under Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights. Cases in the UK and Belgium show how false accusations against groups like Scientology and Jehovah’s Witnesses can lead to public misconceptions and legal issues, harming their reputations. To address this, media should follow ethical guidelines, and governments need to use inclusive language to promote understanding and acceptance
